As I cycled from London to Venice this Easter I realised it was unseasonal weather for cycling. However this was the least of my worries as I had to collect and carry rocks from the landscape through which I passed. The rocks were labeled as I collected them and continually added to my panniers til they were full to bursting. It turns out collecting your own territory is heavy work.
The rock, a completely tangible article, which relentlessly surrounds us as an intangible landscape.
A landmass, a territory, a piece of time, a source of pigment.
The rocks map the journey and they themselves have traveled with me, then independently by post back to the United Kingdom.
Here is one example of many. More to be upload soon.
